RETAILER NOTES: Picking up a skein from the box, I was struck on how light this pure wool is. It's a bit more fluffy than a traditional FINGERING WOOL (Size 2) and I was able to swatch it nicely with a Size 3 (3.0) US needle. It was not as soft as I had pictured it - similar to Patons, but it has fabulous bounce and color saturation. Great yarn for socks, baby and double yarn projects, or for sweaters where yarn weight becomes a factor.
The Bluefaced Leicester Sheep:
BFL sheep have curly, fine, rather lustrous wool which is one of the softest of the UK clip. The fleeces are not very heavy, only weighing 1 to 3 kg (2.2 to 6.6 lb). They have no wool on the head or neck, although the pattern and shape of the wool is most like the Wensleydale, but having smaller, tighter curls.
FROM MANUFACTURER:
Material: 100% wool (Bluefaced Leicester) Yardage: 200m/50g Needle: 2,5-3 mm Gauge: 24 = 10 cm Washing instructions: Hand wash, please This is the finer version of British Blue 100, made from 100% British wool from the Bluefaced Leicester sheep. Considered Britain’s most luxurious fibre, the wool of this breed is supremely soft due to the long staple fibres which are worsted spun to create a fine, lightweight yarn that is low pilling and hard wearing. Known for its lustre, this wool has a subtle sheen for excellent stitch definition due to its densely curled fleece and takes dye extremely well for a vibrant, shimmering effect. The raw wool of course is sourced in Great Britain. It is dyed and spun in our favourite mill in Turkey.
