I recently had unexpected surgery (yay!) and my diet is now in need of a slight change (boo!). Though, I've been OK'd for coffee, a need to continue to cut down on fat. So . . . . . nonfat dairy it is. I experimented with creating a version of my favorite latte and think I've found my new morning drink. Bonus - this is great hot OR cold over ice!

Nonfat
ONE - Measure 3/4 cup (6 ounces) nonfat milk into your favorite coffee mug and microwave for 50 seconds or until hot but not boiling.
TWO - Prepare your coffee (k-cup or drip) to medium strength, or stronger if desired, directly into a glass measuring cup and set aside.
THREE - To the hot milk, add 1 tablespoon of flavored syrup* and froth with an electric milk frother (less than $10), about 45 seconds. Although nonfat milk does not froth as well as fatted milks, you will get a pretty decent froth on top by concentrating the frother on the upper third and surface of the milk. *The DaVinci brand has a large selection of flavored syrups from which to choose.
FOUR - Slowly pour 1/4 cup (2 ounces) of the prepared coffee into the flavored milk and stir gently. Enjoy!
ICED VERSION - Enjoy hot or let it cool down and pour over ice.
